Parents’ Association

The St George’s Weybridge Parents’ Association was established in 1957 and was originally known as St George’s College Parents’ Society. It has changed through the years, not only in name, but has evolved to better reflect the inclusion of all parents with children attending St George's Webridge.

To advance the education of students enrolled in the School by:

  • Developing effective relationships between the staff, parents, Josephite community, and others associated with the School;
  • Engaging in fundraising activities in order to provide the School with those added extras in equipment and facilities that support the School, advance the education of the students, and improve their environment.

Today the Association, to which all parents automatically belong, continues to thrive with an active committee that represents parents from across all School years. The annual family subscription of just £5, funds administrative costs, which enables the association to run smoothy. This is added to your Christmas fee invoice.

The committee meets at the start of every half term and helps to organise and host welcome events for new parents along with various social fundraising events throughout the year such as Quiz Night, the Christmas Fair, the Summer Fete as well as the Summer Ball, which is the feature event of the year! The Parents’ Association also runs the second hand uniform shop, located at the College.

Supporting these events and the second hand uniform shop helps raise funds for current pupil projects at both schools. All projects are proposed by either staff, parents or pupils and put to a committee vote before funds are found. Past projects have included purchasing basketball hoops, nativity costumes and prayer books for leavers alongside one off larger items like a minibus.

As well as attending these events, you may also want to volunteer to help at one or even become a committee member. If you are interested in getting involved, please send an email to: PASGW@stgeorgesweybridge.com.

Information about all events organised by the Parents’ Association can be found on the Parents’ website and the new SGW Parents’ Association Facebook page.

St George's College Boat Club Parents' Committee

The committee is a fund raising group made up of parents of rowers from across the year groups, who meet on a regular basis and organise catering at various rowing events to help raise money for the boat club.

Events throughout the year include:

“Year 3 - Welcome BBQ’ – this is a BBQ event held at the end of the Summer holidays. Mr Walters invites prospective members (future Year 3 children) to the Boat House to try out rowing. The Committee organise a welcome BBQ for the rowers and their families.

October Sausage Sizzle (fund raising event) – A BBQ at the Boat House to welcome parents & families new to rowing. The committee organise a BBQ, refreshments & sell our ‘Rowing Guides’ (an Introduction to rowing and the rowing events which St George's Boat Club participate in, including maps of how to get to events etc.). We also sell some promotional items including SGCBC Car Stickers and Umbrellas.

Christmas Pudding Races – An event organised by Mr Walters and his team. At this event the committee organise a BBQ & refreshments : including mulled wine and mince pies, we play Christmas music and organise a Christmas Raffle. The event takes place at the riverside whilst watching the rowers enjoying some fun, relaxed racing.

Boat Club Dinner – Early May – this is our main fund raising event. A very popular event for the rowers, coaches and their parents. It is a wonderful dinner held at school where last year we had over 200 attendees. We offer a three course meal, a guest speaker (speakers have included Olympic & Paralympic Rowing Medallists). Boat Club Captains and coaches speak too. There is an auction, raffle etc. What makes this a very special event is that it is attended by the rowers & their parents from all the year groups – The rowers all sit together one side of the hall and parents are seated the other side. It is always a great atmosphere. The hall is decorated with rowing blades, flower arrangements in school colours, with great raffle and auction prizes donated by parents and local companies, a photo booth was installed last year – all is organised by the committee. One auction item is the Dragon Ladies Dinner – a meal for up to 12 people - prepared, cooked, served and cleared away by 3 or 4 members of our committee, also groups of Senior girls and boys are auctioned offering their time & skills (whatever that may be gardening to babysitting!) in return for donations. Personally (and I think most importantly) this event is a great way to recognise the continuous encouragement and support of the brilliant coaches and extraordinary commitment shown by the students themselves to this great sport in which St Georges is represented so well. It is also a wonderful way for our rowing family to celebrate together.

National schools Regatta (3 day event) Every year The College compete in this event, the Committee organise a large marquee at the side of the racing lanes (alongside all the other competing schools) and invite all the supporters of the college to watch the event from this central point. This event has been held In Nottingham but last year it was held at Dorney Lake (the Olympic Rowing venue for London 2012). Catering is provided across the three days by the committee from the marquee, we organise hot food for the rowers and ‘all day’ refreshments for all parents & guests - from Bacon rolls in the morning, to salads, burgers & pasta for lunch to unlimited cakes and soft drinks and of course Pimms!

Summer Regatta – An event organised by Mr Walters – the committee organise a BBQ, refreshments and raffle to the guests (rowers, parents, friends and old Georgians).

Fund Raising Head of Rowing, Mr Walters, will let the committee know each year, what funds are being raised for: funds have been used for Telemetry Equipment, Physiology testing for Senior Rowers, £ towards towing vehicles etc…
